What is this all about?

So unless you’ve been living under a rock you are aware of certain African American actors like Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith planning to boycott the Oscars. Spike Lee has confirmed his wife and him will not be in attendance at the Oscars. Some African American actors, filmmakers want to boycott the Oscars because the lack of diversity in nominations. Stacey Dash stated, “We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” she continued. “If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard. There shouldn’t be a black history month. We’re Americans, period.” While Ms. Dash made some valid points we have to be completely R E A L. I am for integration but I am not for blacks begging to be accepted by mainstream America i.e. white America.

Part of the problem African Americans have is we do not OWN WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE’VE BEEN THROUGH. We want to be accepted so badly that we lose who we are. We NEED TO HAVE MORE PRIDE. If we respected ourselves more, stood up for ourselves more we would not ALLOW ourselves to be treated any differently. We are KINGS & QUEENS but we do not carry ourselves in that manner. We can’t settle for crumbs on the table when we know we DESERVE MORE. The black man is awarded when he plays the villain or the stereotypical black man. The black woman is praised when she portrays herself as promiscuous or the side chick. I am not saying we should be awarded because we are the minority…not at all. We should be awarded based off of pure talent. Finally in 2015 I saw a reemergence of African Americans in movies and the movies were not just sub par. The movies were definitely Oscar worthy or at the least nomination worthy.

you maybe thinking… does an award really determine your worth? Jane Hubert better known as Aunt Viv from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air mentions that there are actors who love the craft and that an actor should not be focused on the awards aspect. Personally it’s just like this…imagine..working your ass off on a consistent basis and never being recognized while someone else’s work (not as good as yours) continually gets recognized. You know when you are the best and you’re getting overlooked. We can chop some things up as an L but for how long? How long can we continue to sit back and serve as a second class citizen? We’ve worked hard to be in America and our presence needs to be known. AMERICA IS NOT FAIR! BE C L E A R. It’s time we step up in America and play the games differently. Stand for something or fall for anything. This even goes beyond the Oscars. This goes beyond the black and white issue. I repeat, STAND FOR SOMETHING or fall for anything.

It’s cool for the minority or the black man(the sell out for some money) to host the show but it’s not cool to get a nomination or award…oh.

P.S. I will not be watching the Oscars…it is boring. I usually just watch for the fashion.
